Welcome to Downtown Deli & Donuts!! I never thought that I would work in a restaurant, much less go on to own 2... I majored in Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism at USC and took as few restaurant classes as possible. Loved catering, nutrition, & quantity food production classes but restaurants? Not so much. I was going to own my own catering business which I went on to do when my children were young & my mother-in-law started telling all her friends I was "catering". I eventually bought a little restaurant downtown that I was going to close & use the space as a catering kitchen. And that's pretty much when all my carefully constructed plans flew out the window... I liked the energy & interaction with people everyday. And they liked my food. So I kept it open & built the catering business as well. Over the years I catered for a VP(Cheney), Goveners, State Senators, college presidents, and more. When I closed Elizabeth's in 2009, I thought that I was out of the restaurant business for good. I might have even gone as far to say "I will never own another restaurant, I don't have another concept in me"... I went on to work with a restaurant foodservice distributor and consulted with independent restaurant owners. And one of the things I always told those owners was "find a niche that's not being filled & focus on that". Those words would come back to haunt me.
In 2015, my daughter & I opened a women's boutique downtown & I helped out on Saturday's. And I was always hungry. And there were no restaurants nearby to grab a bite to eat...
